Israel recently removed a map from its official website that inaccurately depicted a part of Jammu and Kashmir as belonging to Pakistan.
An Indian influencer on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) raised the issue by pointing out the incorrect depiction of Jammu and Kashmir on Israel's official website.
The influencer questioned Israel's stance on India's territorial integrity by saying, 'India stands with Israel. But does Israel stand with India? Note the map of India (pay attention to Jammu & Kashmir) on Israels official website.'
Israel's ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, acknowledged the mistake and stated that it was a 'website editor's mistake.' He thanked the social media users for noticing and assured that the map had been taken down.
Ambassador Azar's response was, 'Website editors mistake. Thank you for noticing. Was taken down.'
The Indian public, particularly on social media, expressed outrage and appreciation for Israel's prompt action. An Indian influencer thanked the Israeli government for removing the incorrect map, highlighting it as a demonstration of Israel's friendship with India.
Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, a position that has been consistently asserted by the Indian government in its foreign policy.
The incident occurred during a tumultuous period in the Middle East, where Israel is engaged in a multi-front conflict following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. This has resulted in significant violence and displacement.
India has condemned the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel and has expressed concern over the loss of civilian lives in the conflict. India has also emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
During a recent address at the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented two maps categorizing countries into 'The Curse' and 'The Blessing.' The former included Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen, while the latter featured Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, and India.
The removal of the incorrect map signifies Israel's commitment to maintaining accurate representations of international boundaries and its willingness to address diplomatic concerns promptly.
