Troy Landry, a star from the hit TV show 'Swamp People,' was caught in a sting operation by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. He was charged with two counts of failing to tag an alligator properly.
The sting operation occurred on Lake Palourde in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. Agents received an anonymous tip about unauthorized gator lines with white flagging in the area.
During the sting, Troy Landry was accompanied by a 28-year-old woman and an unidentified camera man. They were spotted approaching an alligator line from their boat.
When confronted by game wardens, Troy Landry initially claimed they were just scouting and had permission to hunt on the property. However, he later admitted to taking an alligator from the area without proper tags.
The game wardens seized the boat, engine, and the improperly tagged alligator. They also found a dead 'stiff' alligator that Landry had cut loose from his line and let float away.
Failure to tag an alligator is a class four violation in Louisiana, carrying a sentence of up to 120 days in prison and $950 in fines. Troy Landry will appear in court for a civil restitution hearing on Nov. 20 and in criminal court on Jan. 25.
When questioned about the charges, Troy Landry stated he had 'nothing to say' and mentioned he had also received a speeding ticket recently. His response was brief and did not address the specific allegations.
