The projected COLA increase for 2025 is around 2.5% to help Social Security benefits keep up with rising costs.
The Social Security Administration will announce the official COLA on October 10, 2024.
If the 2.5% increase is confirmed, the average check would go from about $1,920 to roughly $1,968, providing an extra $48 each month.
VA disability compensation rates depend on several factors, including the disability rating (ranging from 10% to 100% in 10% increments), the number of dependents, and special circumstances such as severe injuries or having a disabled spouse.
The COLA increase will help over 7 million veterans and retired military members by ensuring their benefits keep pace with inflation, impacting clothing allowances, dependency and protection benefits, and other VA programs.
Veterans will receive the new VA benefits payments starting November 1, 2024, and continuing through the year with consistent distribution dates.
The updated 2025 VA disability compensation rates include increases based on the 2.5% COLA, with specific rates varying by disability rating and dependent status. For example, a 10% rating will increase to $175.51, while a 20% rating will increase to $346.95.
The VA uses a combined ratings table to determine the overall disability rating for veterans with multiple service-connected disabilities, which can result in a higher overall rating and increased compensation.
Veterans who received an Other Than Honorable (OTH) discharge due to mental health conditions such as PTSD or military trauma can now request a faster review and adjustment of their discharge status, making it easier for them to access a wider range of benefits.
