The highly anticipated Indian Hindi-language action thriller film, Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, is set to release in theatres worldwide on October 11, 2024, coinciding with the festive occasion of Vijayadashami. Directed by Vasan Bala, who also co-wrote the film with Debashish Irengbam, Jigra promises an intense and gripping narrative.

Plot and Cast

The film revolves around Satya Anand, played by Alia Bhatt, a young woman who has endured a difficult childhood and is now determined to rescue her brother, Ankur Anand, portrayed by Vedang Raina, from a foreign prison where he faces torture and a death sentence. This action-thriller showcases Satya's transformation into a hero as she attempts the impossible: breaking her brother out of prison and bringing him to safety.

The cast includes notable actors such as Manoj Pahwa, Rahul Ravindran, and Sobhita Dhulipala, with a cameo appearance by Akansha Ranjan Kapoor. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Alia Bhatt, Shaheen Bhatt, and Somen Mishra under the banners of Dharma Productions and Eternal Sunshine Productions.

Production and Music

Principal photography for Jigra commenced in October 2023 and wrapped up by February 2024, with the film being mainly shot in Mumbai and Singapore. The music album, including background scores, is composed by Achint Thakkar, with lyrics by Varun Grover. The film features a recreated version of the classic song 'Phoolon Ka Taaro Ka,' originally composed by R.D. Burman, and two original singles: 'Chal Kudiye' and 'Tenu Sang Rakhna'.

The song 'Tenu Sang Rakhna,' sung by Arijit Singh, Anumita Nadesan, and Achint Thakkar, has been particularly praised for adding soul to the sibling bond between Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina's characters.

Marketing and Release

The official teaser of Jigra was released on September 8, 2024, followed by the theatrical trailer on September 26, 2024. The Telugu dubbed version's trailer was unveiled by Alia Bhatt's RRR co-star Ram Charan and director S.S. Rajamouli. Initially scheduled for a September 27 release, the film's release date was later moved to October 11, 2024.

The film has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and has a runtime of approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Casting and Director's Insights

Director Vasan Bala revealed that he was not initially happy when Karan Johar sent the rough script of Jigra to Alia Bhatt. However, Alia Bhatt was highly intrigued by the story and chased Vasan Bala for a month to get the rest of the script. Both Vasan Bala and co-producer Somen Mishra have clarified that Alia Bhatt was always their first choice for the role of Satya Anand.

Vasan Bala expressed his gratitude towards Karan Johar for trusting his instincts and forwarding the script to Alia Bhatt, which he described as a 'magnanimous gesture'.

With its intense action sequences and emotional depth, Jigra is expected to resonate well with audiences. The film's streaming rights have been acquired by Netflix, and it will be available for streaming after its theatrical run.
