Baltimore Ravens Release Veteran Running Back John Kelly, Sign Linebacker William Kwenkeu

The Baltimore Ravens made significant roster adjustments on Tuesday, announcing the release of veteran running back John Kelly from their practice squad. Kelly, 27, had been with the Ravens since August 13, after being released by the Cleveland Browns.

During his time with the Ravens, Kelly was elevated to the active roster for the first two games of the season. Although he did not see action on offense, he contributed to special teams, including two kick returns for 46 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2.

Kelly's NFL career has been marked by limited playing time. A 2018 sixth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams, he has appeared in 15 regular season games over six seasons, rushing for 96 yards on 32 carries. His current role in the NFL seems to be best suited for practice squad positions.

William Kwenkeu Joins the Ravens

In a corresponding move, the Ravens signed linebacker William Kwenkeu to their practice squad. Kwenkeu, a native of Cameroon, initially signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent from Temple in 2022. He recorded two tackles in six games for the Vikings before being released in March of this year.

The roster changes come as the Ravens prepare to face the Cincinnati Bengals in their first divisional game of the year on Sunday. These moves reflect the team's ongoing efforts to optimize their roster and maintain their competitive edge.
