Bigg Boss 18: PETA Calls Out Use of Donkey, Urges Salman Khan to Avoid Animal Props

The grand premiere of Bigg Boss 18, hosted by Salman Khan, has sparked controversy with the inclusion of a donkey named Gadhraj in the show. The reality show, which premiered on October 6, features 18 new contestants including TV actors, politicians, and social media influencers. However, it was the 19th contestanta real donkeythat has evoked the most curiosity and concern among viewers and animal welfare organizations.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has taken umbrage with the decision to feature an animal on the show. On Wednesday, October 9, Shaurya Agrawal, an advocacy associate with PETA India, wrote a letter to Salman Khan and the show's producers expressing deep concern over the donkey's appearance on the show. The letter states that the public is 'deeply distressed' over the keeping of a donkey in the Bigg Boss house and urges the production crew to 'avoid using animals as props for entertainment.'

The letter further emphasizes that 'the use of animals on a show set is no laughing matter' and advises the production team to surrender the donkey to PETA India for rehoming in a sanctuary with other rescued donkeys. The donkey was introduced by Salman Khan on the day of the grand premiere and entrusted to the contestants for its well-being during its stay in the house.

While many viewers have found the inclusion of the animal funny, others have expressed concerns about the welfare of the donkey. One viewer on Reddit noted, 'The contestants are trapped there with their consent, but the donkey is not.' This sentiment reflects the mixed reactions from both the audience and animal welfare organizations.

Bigg Boss 18, which airs on Colors TV and JioCinema, sees 18 contestants competing against each other while confined in one house for weeks and months on end. The show's producers have not yet responded to PETA's request, but the controversy surrounding the donkey's inclusion is likely to continue.

The competition is heating up every day with contestants vying for the renowned winner's trophy and a big prize of Rs 50 Lakh. However, the ethical treatment of animals on the show remains a significant concern for many viewers and organizations like PETA.
