CAG Organizes National Essay Writing Competition 2024 for College Students

The Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India is set to host the third National Essay Writing Competition on October 4, 2024. This event is part of the celebrations for Audit Diwas and aims to raise awareness among the youth about the role and contributions of the CAG in promoting public accountability and good governance.

About the Competition

The competition is open to all college students who are currently enrolled in a course of study at any institution recognized by any university in India. Participants must not be more than 23 years old as of August 1, 2024. Employees of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department are not eligible, although their family members can participate.

Eligibility and Registration

There are no registration charges for participation. Interested participants can register online through the dedicated portal until October 3, 2024, subject to capacity constraints at various locations. Participants will have the option to select their preferred station from the list of available locations, and centers will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Onsite registration will also be available for walk-in participants until two hours before the competition starts, subject to capacity constraints.

Competition Details

The essay competition will be conducted in a conventional pen and paper format at selected field offices of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IA&AD) from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Participants can write their essays in either English or Hindi. The topic of the essay will be disclosed at the start of the competition, and essays should not exceed 1,500 words. Additionally, participants must include a 150-word summary capturing the essence and central idea of the essay.

Evaluation and Prizes

The essays will be evaluated based on originality of thought, depth of knowledge, clear reasoning, quality of argument, critical analysis, and structure and writing style. The best three essays in each language will be awarded cash prizes: 50,000 for the first prize, 40,000 for the second prize, and 30,000 for the third prize. The results will be published on the CAGs website by November 5, 2024, and prizes will be awarded on November 16, 2024.

All participants will receive participation certificates in digital format. The decision of the evaluation committees will be final and binding on all participants.
