CJI DY Chandrachud: Recent Developments and Notable Rulings

CJI DY Chandrachud's Strong Rebuke in Court

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud made headlines on Monday with a stern rebuke to a lawyer during a hearing in the Supreme Court. The lawyer, who was arguing a case involving the wrongful dismissal of a plea by former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, repeatedly used the term 'yeah' during his arguments. CJI Chandrachud took exception to this, stating, 'Don't say yeah yeah yeah . Say Yes . This is not a coffee shop. This is a court. I am a little allergic to people saying yeah .' He emphasized the importance of maintaining the dignity and formal language expected in a court of law.

The case in question involved a demand for a probe against former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who is currently a Rajya Sabha MP. CJI Chandrachud questioned the validity of filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) with a judge as a respondent and asked the petitioner to remove Justice Gogoi's name from the plea.

CJI Chandrachud's Recent Public Engagements

On a different note, CJI DY Chandrachud recently visited the Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirumala on September 29, 2024. He offered prayers in the sanctum sanctorum and received Vedic blessings from the temple priests. The Chief Justice was accompanied by his family members and was presented with a picture of the deity and thirtha prasadams (consecrated food) by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) executive officer.
