Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Falls Ill During J&K Rally, Vows to Stay Alive Till PM Modi's Removal

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge fell ill during a public rally in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua on Sunday. The 83-year-old leader felt dizzy while addressing a public meeting in Jasrota, Kathua, where he was paying tribute to a head constable who was killed in an ongoing operation with terrorists.

According to reports, Kharge experienced slightly low blood pressure and was assessed by his medical team. Despite his health concerns, he is reported to be stable and doing well. His son, Priyank Kharge, a Karnataka minister, shared an update on his father's health, stating that 'apart from slightly low blood pressure, he is doing well... His resolve, along with people’s good wishes, keeps him going strong.'

Incident Details

During the rally, Kharge suddenly felt uneasy and dizzy. His colleagues quickly helped him into a chair, and doctors were called for a check-up. Despite the brief health scare, Kharge returned to the stage after having a sip of water and finished his speech, albeit quickly.

In his speech, Kharge took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, 'We will fight to restore statehood... I am 83 years old, I am not going to die so early. I will stay alive till PM Modi is removed from power.' This statement underscored his determination and commitment to his political goals.

Upcoming Engagements

Kharge is scheduled to address another public rally in Ramnagar in Udhampur district, but his participation will depend on the advice of his doctors. The rallies are part of the campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, with the final phase set to take place on October 1.

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections are significant, marking the first such polls in the region in a decade. The first phase was held on September 18, followed by the second phase on September 25, with the results scheduled to be announced on October 8.
