Dallas Cowboys Sign Defensive End K.J. Henry Amid Injuries to Key Players

The Dallas Cowboys have made a significant move to bolster their defensive line by signing defensive end K.J. Henry from the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad. This addition comes in response to injuries affecting two of their key defensive players, Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence.

Injury Impact

Micah Parsons is currently dealing with a high left ankle sprain, which is expected to keep him out of action for the upcoming week. DeMarcus Lawrence, another crucial defensive end, has been placed on injured reserve due to a Lisfranc injury in his right foot. Lawrence's injury, sustained during the third quarter of the game against the New York Giants, is anticipated to require four to eight weeks for recovery, although surgery will not be necessary.

K.J. Henry's Background

K.J. Henry, a 25-year-old defensive end, was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. He played in 10 games for the Commanders during his rookie season, accumulating 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Before joining the Cowboys, Henry played in two games for the Bengals this season before being moved to their practice squad.

The Cowboys had previously shown interest in Henry during the final cuts, but the Bengals had priority in the claiming process. By signing him off the practice squad, the Cowboys are required to keep Henry on their 53-man roster for at least three games.

Roster Adjustments

In addition to signing Henry, the Cowboys are likely to elevate veteran defensive end Carl Lawson from the practice squad for the third consecutive game. This move is necessary as Lawson would need to be added to the 53-man roster to play again. The team also has Tyrus Wheat on the active roster, who has been inactive for the past two games.

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones has indicated that the team is unlikely to pursue a trade for another defensive end, suggesting that they are confident in their current roster adjustments.
