Delta Air Lines Expands Presence in Austin with Five New Nonstop Routes

Delta Air Lines has announced a significant expansion of its services from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, introducing five new nonstop routes set to launch in 2025. This move reinforces Delta's commitment to the growing city of Austin and enhances its position as a key gateway in the region.

New Routes and Launch Dates

The first new service will connect Austin to Panama City, Florida, beginning on March 9, 2025, coinciding with the spring break travel season. Flights to Indianapolis, Indiana, and Memphis, Tennessee, will start on May 7, 2025. Notably, Delta will be the only airline offering nonstop service between Austin and Memphis. The routes to San Francisco, California, and Tampa, Florida, are scheduled to launch on June 8, 2025.

Operational Details

The new routes to Panama City, Indianapolis, and Memphis will be operated by SkyWest under the Delta Connection brand, utilizing Embraer 175 aircraft. In contrast, the San Francisco and Tampa routes will be serviced by Delta's Airbus A220-300 jets, which feature fewer middle seats and expanded overhead bins.

Impact on Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

This expansion will increase Delta's peak daily departures from Austin to 55 by summer 2025, solidifying its position as a major carrier at the airport. The airline has seen significant passenger growth at Austin-Bergstrom, transporting over 1 million passengers from January to July this year, a 23.5% increase compared to the same period last year.

The announcement comes as Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is undergoing a major expansion, with the Austin City Council recently approving $1.9 billion in contracts for new construction, including a new concourse that will add 20 gates to the airport.

Market Context

Delta's expansion also fills gaps left by other airlines. For instance, American Airlines has eliminated several routes from Austin, including some that Delta is now reinstating. The new routes will provide passengers with more options and enhance Austin's connectivity to both business and leisure destinations across the U.S.

Tickets for the new routes are now available for purchase on Delta's website.
