Dolphins Turn to Tyler Huntley as Tua Tagovailoa Remains Out

The Miami Dolphins have announced that Tyler Huntley will start as their quarterback for the upcoming Week 4 Monday night game against the Tennessee Titans. This decision comes after Tua Tagovailoa was placed on injured reserve due to a concussion sustained in the Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Huntley's Background and Experience

Huntley, a former Pro Bowler, was signed by the Dolphins from the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad on September 17. He has started nine games in his four-year NFL career, all with the Ravens, and has a completion percentage of 65%, throwing for 1,957 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Additionally, he has rushed for 509 yards and three touchdowns.

Huntley's experience includes leading the Ravens to the playoffs in 2022 after starting four games in place of an injured Lamar Jackson, which earned him Pro Bowl recognition. His ability to extend plays with his legs and his overall skill set have impressed his new teammates and coaches.

Injury Impact and Team Adjustments

The decision to start Huntley was also influenced by the injury to backup quarterback Skylar Thompson, who suffered a rib injury during the Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks. Thompson may still serve as the emergency quarterback, but Tim Boyle will be Huntley's primary backup for the game against the Titans.

The Dolphins will also be without starting left tackle Terron Armstead and cornerback Kendall Fuller, both of whom are in concussion protocol. Running back Raheem Mostert's status is uncertain due to a chest injury, and linebacker David Long will be a game-time decision due to a hamstring issue.

Huntley's Homecoming and Team Reaction

For Huntley, this is a homecoming of sorts, as he grew up in South Florida. He expressed his excitement about playing for his hometown team, saying it was 'like a child's dream' to have this opportunity.

Huntley's teammates, including wide receiver Tyreek Hill, have praised his work ethic and ability to quickly learn the Dolphins' complex offense. Hill noted that Huntley 'can make every throw' and is 'special with his legs,' adding a unique element to the team's offense.
