Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard Faces Eviction Amid Allegations of Misusing Municipal Funds

Dolton, Illinois, Mayor Tiffany Henyard, who has been at the center of several controversies and investigations, is now facing an eviction notice from her landlord. The notice, filed on September 18 in Cook County Circuit Court, names Henyard and her boyfriend, Kamal Woods, who is an employee of Thornton Township, where Henyard serves as supervisor.

According to the eviction notice, Henyard and Woods are $3,350 in arrears on their rent for their home along Harvard Street in Dolton. The couple has been given five days to either vacate the premises or sign a new lease and pay all owed rent, plus an additional $50 each day and the monthly rent of $2,400.

Henyard's landlord, Genetta Hull, has declined to comment on the details of the lawsuit. However, Henyard's attorney, Beau Brindley, has disputed the eviction claim, stating that it was brought under false pretenses and driven by other motives rather than a genuine complaint about missed payments.

Ongoing Investigations and Controversies

Mayor Henyard is currently under federal investigation for alleged misuse of municipal funds. This includes a notable instance where she allegedly made $40,000 worth of Amazon purchases in a single day. Additionally, she has been accused of spending thousands of taxpayer dollars on personal perks such as hair and makeup, as well as billing the city for $67,000 in out-of-town travel during a five-month span in 2023.

In April, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Dolton City Hall, although the specifics of what they were investigating remain unclear. Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is heading a probe into Henyard's spending, which has revealed significant financial improprieties, contributing to Dolton's financial deficit of over $3.5 million.

Administrative Disputes and Legal Challenges

Henyard has also faced legal challenges related to her administrative actions. She recently appointed a new police chief, village attorney, and village administrator without the consent of the Dolton Village Board, which led to a temporary restraining order being issued against her and the appointees. This order prohibits them from entering Village Hall, while allowing other personnel to continue their work as normal.

Henyard, who was elected in February 2021 with 82% of the vote, made history as the first woman mayor of Dolton and the youngest to hold the position. Despite her achievements, her tenure has been marred by numerous controversies and legal battles.
