Garth Brooks Accused of Sexual Assault and Battery in Lawsuit by Former Makeup Artist

Country music icon Garth Brooks is facing severe allegations of sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit filed by a woman who worked as his hairstylist and makeup artist. The lawsuit, which was lodged in a California state court on October 3, 2024, details several incidents that allegedly occurred in 2019.

Background of the Accuser

The accuser, identified as 'Jane Roe,' began providing hairstyling and makeup services to Garth Brooks in 2017, although she originally worked with his wife, Trisha Yearwood, starting in 1999. According to the lawsuit, Roe's professional relationship with Brooks turned into a series of traumatic and sexually abusive incidents.

Allegations of Sexual Assault

One of the most disturbing allegations involves an incident in May 2019, when Brooks took Roe to Los Angeles for a Grammy tribute to Sam Moore. During this trip, Roe claims that she and Brooks traveled on his private jet, which was unusual because they were the only passengers. Upon arrival, she discovered that Brooks had booked a single hotel room for both of them, despite her request for a separate room. According to the lawsuit, Brooks appeared in the bedroom doorway completely naked, dragged her onto a bed, and raped her. The alleged assault was described as extremely violent, with Brooks holding her by the ankles and penetrating her so forcefully that she felt as if she were breaking in two.

In addition to the alleged rape, the lawsuit details other incidents of sexual misconduct. Roe claims that Brooks frequently exposed his genitals and buttocks, discussed sexual topics and fantasies with her, changed his clothes in her presence, and sent her sexually explicit text messages. In one instance, while working at Brooks' residence, he allegedly emerged from the shower naked, took her hands, and forced them onto his genitals while using vulgar and explicit language.

Brooks' Response and Legal Actions

Garth Brooks has previously denied the allegations made against him. Before the current lawsuit, Brooks filed a preemptive complaint as 'John Doe,' alleging that Roe's attorney had sent him a confidential demand letter accusing him of sexual misconduct after he rejected her request for a salaried position and medical benefits. Brooks stated in his complaint that the allegations were false and expressed concern over the potential damage to his reputation, family, and career.

Roe's legal team has described Brooks' attempt to silence her as a desperate and intimidating maneuver. They expressed confidence that Brooks would be held responsible for his actions and commended Roe for her bravery in pursuing her complaint. The case highlights that sexual predators can be found in various industries, including country music.

The lawsuit seeks damages for the alleged sexual assault and battery, and it marks a significant development in the ongoing battle against sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry.
