Govinda Recovers After Accidental Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound; Police Investigation Ongoing

Bollywood actor and former Member of Parliament, Govinda, is on the road to recovery after suffering an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at his Mumbai residence, where he was alone at the time.

According to reports, Govinda was handling his licensed .32 bore revolver, which he has owned for over 20 years, when it accidentally discharged. The bullet hit him near his left knee. He was immediately rushed to the Criti Care hospital in Juhu, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Health Update

Govinda's wife, Sunita Ahuja, provided an update on his health outside the hospital. She stated that Govinda is 'much better' and is expected to be shifted to a normal ward from the ICU. Sunita expressed optimism about his recovery, mentioning that if his progress continues, he might be able to dance again in a few months. 'He will be shifted to a normal ward today. He is much better than yesterday and within the next 48 hours, he might also be discharged from the hospital,' she said.

Police Investigation

The Mumbai crime branch has launched an investigation into the incident. A team led by senior police inspector Daya Nayak met with Govinda at the hospital to enquire about the details of the accident. Despite Govinda's explanation that the revolver fell and accidentally discharged, police officials are not fully convinced by his version of events. However, they have ruled out any foul play in the incident.

The revolver, which was not locked at the time of the incident, has been seized by the police for further forensic examination to determine if there were any faults in the weapon that could have led to the misfire.

Reactions from the Industry

Several figures from the Bollywood industry have visited Govinda at the hospital, including Shatrughan Sinha, Raveena Tandon, Pahlaj Nihalani, and David Dhawan. Pahlaj Nihalani, a close friend and longtime collaborator of Govinda, urged people to stop spreading 'misleading alarmist' reports about the actor's health, emphasizing that Govinda is on the path to recovery and was 'his normal cheerful self'.

Shatrughan Sinha also clarified that the incident was purely an accident, stating, 'There are no ifs and buts in accidents. He received treatment'.
