Heavy Rainfall Alerts Issued for Several Indian States: Here’s What You Need to Know

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall alerts for several states across India, including Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and others. These alerts come as various parts of the country are experiencing intense monsoon activity.

Rajasthan Under Heavy Rainfall Alert

In Rajasthan, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for eastern parts of the state due to heavy downpours that have caused severe waterlogging. The districts of Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, and Jaipur are expected to see continued rain activities over the next three to four days, with a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall. The highest rainfall of 105 mm in 24 hours was recorded in Shahpura, Bhilwara.

The heavy rains have led to significant issues, including the opening of four gates of the Bisalpur Dam, a crucial water source for several districts. Farmers are advised to ensure proper drainage in fields and provide support to crops to prevent any rain damage.

Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal Face Renewed Flooding

In Andhra Pradesh, despite floodwaters receding in several parts of Vijayawada, fresh rainfall and a third breach in the Budameru Rivulet have led to renewed flooding. The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in coastal regions. Currently, 46,320 flood-affected individuals are being housed in 226 relief camps, with 50 teams from the NDRF and SDRF engaged in relief efforts.

In West Bengal, a depression formed over the Bay of Bengal is expected to move northwestwards towards the Odisha-West Bengal coasts and intensify into a deep depression. East and West Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, and Jhargram districts are expected to see heavy rainfall between September 9-10, while other districts may receive light to moderate rain. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea along the West Bengal-Odisha coast due to anticipated squally weather.

Other Affected Regions

In addition to Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal, other states such as Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Goa are also expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next few days. A deep depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan has led to red alerts in these regions, with strong winds and rough sea conditions anticipated.

Himachal Pradesh has also been affected, with heavy rains leading to the closure of 40 roads and a low risk of flash floods in several districts. The local Met office has issued a yellow alert for Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur.

Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of waterlogging, road closures, and potential localized flooding. Farmers should ensure proper drainage in fields, and travelers should check for traffic advisories before venturing out.
