IIFA 2024: Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, and 'Animal' Shine at the Awards

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2024, held in Abu Dhabi, celebrated the best of the Hindi film industry with a star-studded event. The second day of the ceremony, which took place on September 28, saw some of the biggest names in Bollywood gather to honor outstanding performances and films.

Shah Rukh Khan, who hosted the event alongside Vicky Kaushal and Karan Johar, won the Best Actor award for his performance in Jawan. In his acceptance speech, Khan thanked all the nominees and mentioned the challenges he faced during the filming of Jawan, particularly referencing the tough time his family went through during his son Aryan Khan's arrest. He also expressed gratitude to his wife Gauri for her unconditional support.

Rani Mukerji took home the Best Actress award for her powerful performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Her portrayal of a mother fighting for the custody of her children was widely acclaimed.

Multiple Wins for 'Animal'

The film Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was a major winner of the night, bagging several awards. It won the Best Film award, with Anil Kapoor receiving the Best Supporting Actor award and Bobby Deol winning the Best Actor in a Negative Role for their performances in the film. Additionally, Animal won awards for Best Music, Best Lyrics for the song 'Satranga,' and Bhupinder Babbal won the Best Male Singer award for 'Arjan Vailly'.

Other notable winners include Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who won the Best Director award for 12th Fail, and Shabana Azmi, who received the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also won the Best Story award.

Special Honors and Performances

The event was graced by legendary actors such as Hema Malini and Rekha. Hema Malini was honored with an award for her Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema, while Karan Johar was recognized for his Achievement of 25 Years in Cinema.

The ceremony was filled with energetic performances, including Shah Rukh Khan dancing to his hit songs like 'Jhoome Jo Pathaan' and 'Mere Mehboob Mere Sanaam.' Vicky Kaushal also joined him on stage for some of these performances.

The IIFA 2024 celebrations began on September 27 with IIFA Utsavam, honoring the southern film industries, and will conclude on September 29 with the IIFA Rocks event, featuring live performances by Honey Singh, Shilpa Rao, and the musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
