Indian Army Chief Warns of Ongoing Tensions with China Along LAC

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has emphasized that the current situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China is not normal, despite being described as stable. General Dwivedi highlighted the ongoing tensions and the need to address the issues arising from China's transgressions in 2020.

Stable but Sensitive Situation

The situation in eastern Ladakh is characterized as stable but sensitive . General Dwivedi stressed that while there is no immediate escalation, the environment remains fraught with tension. This sensitivity is a result of the unresolved border disputes and the continued presence of Chinese forces in the region.

Restoring Pre-2020 Status

General Dwivedi reiterated India's commitment to restoring the pre-2020 status at the LAC. This involves addressing the forward deployments made by Chinese forces and ensuring that the border areas return to their previous state before the 2020 transgressions.

Trust and Diplomatic Efforts

The Army Chief also noted that trust has been a significant casualty in the relationship between India and China due to the recent border incidents. This lack of trust underscores the need for continued diplomatic efforts to resolve the issues and reduce tensions along the LAC.

These statements come days after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's message at the United Nations General Assembly, where he emphasized that tensions will continue until China addresses its forward deployments along the border.
