Indian Chess Star D Gukesh Dances to Rajinikanth's 'Manasilayo' in Viral Video

Indian chess Grandmaster D Gukesh has captured the hearts of fans once again, this time not with his chess moves, but with his dancing skills. In a viral video, Gukesh is seen grooving to the popular song 'Manasilayo' from Rajinikanth's forthcoming movie 'Vettaiyan'.

Dressed in a red kurta and 'veshti', and sporting sunglasses, Gukesh can be seen following the hook steps of the song with his family and friends. The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows Gukesh's infectious spirit and his ability to celebrate victories in life, whether on the chessboard or the dance floor.

Recent Achievements in Chess

This joyful moment comes on the heels of Gukesh's remarkable success at the 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest, where he played a crucial role in India's historic first-ever gold medal win in the men's division. Gukesh delivered an extraordinary performance, winning 9 out of his 10 games on the top board, securing an individual gold medal and guiding the Indian team to the top spot.

Gukesh's success at the Olympiad is just the latest in a series of impressive achievements. At just 17 years old, he became the youngest player ever to win the FIDE Candidates Tournament, solidifying his position as the youngest challenger for the world title. He is set to face Chinese Grandmaster Ding Liren at the upcoming World Championship in Singapore from November 20 to December 15.

Celebration and Recognition

After the Chess Olympiad, Gukesh received a hero's welcome upon his arrival in Chennai. He was later felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, along with his teammates. This recognition highlights Gukesh's significant contribution to India's rising prominence in the global chess arena.

Gukesh's journey in chess began at an early age; he earned the grandmaster title at just 12 years, 7 months, and 17 days. By September 2023, he had ascended to the eighth position in the global rankings and was recognized as the top player in India, ending a remarkable 37-year period during which GM Viswanathan Anand held the title as India's highest-rated player.
