KeAndre Lambert-Smith, a highly touted wide receiver, has made a significant impact since his transfer from Penn State to the Auburn Tigers. Born on July 29, 2002, Lambert-Smith, often referred to by his initials KLS, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Auburn offense.
Lambert-Smith's journey began at Matthew Fontaine Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia, where he led his team to a state championship and garnered over 1,500 yards from scrimmage along with 26 touchdowns in his senior year. He was a four-star recruit and chose Penn State over offers from top programs like North Carolina, Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia.
At Penn State, Lambert-Smith had a stellar career, accumulating 1,598 receiving yards on 116 receptions over four seasons. He was the only player in Penn State history with multiple 80-yard receptions and had 20 catches of 20+ yards. In his final season with the Nittany Lions, he earned honorable mention all-Big Ten honors with 53 catches for 673 yards.
One of his most memorable moments at Penn State was during the 2023 Rose Bowl, where he set a Rose Bowl record with an 88-yard reception.
In April 2024, Lambert-Smith entered the transfer portal and shortly after announced his decision to join the Auburn Tigers. This move was driven by his desire to showcase his skills in a more pass-oriented offense under Coach Hugh Freeze.
"Auburn was a perfect fit," Lambert-Smith stated, highlighting the team's emphasis on throwing the ball and getting playmakers open. "Coming from a run-first offense at Penn State, the receivers might not have always had that same confidence that I was used to. Now, you come here, and you’re in a situation where you’ve got Coach Freeze, who’s known for throwing the ball and getting playmakers open," he explained.
Since joining the Auburn Tigers, Lambert-Smith has been nothing short of phenomenal. He has quickly become a leader in the receiver room, guiding younger talents like Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, and Malcolm Simmons. His presence has brought a sense of stability and confidence to the team, much like veteran receivers have historically done in mentoring younger players.
"Players like Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson and Malcolm Simmons... rely on the veteran to not only lead by example but provide insight and encouraging words to help them navigate the seasons," noted a report from Sports Illustrated. Lambert-Smith's ability to polish the footwork and route acumen of his younger teammates has been particularly valuable.
Lambert-Smith is currently leading the Auburn Tigers in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. His veteran presence and polished skills have made him an invaluable piece of the Auburn offense. According to Auburn's athletic website, his releases and start/stop abilities have impressed quarterback Payton Thorne, who praised Lambert-Smith's ability to get open even when pressed off the line.
Off the field, Lambert-Smith has also excelled academically. He received his bachelor’s degree in recreation, parks and tourism management from Penn State in May 2024 and is now pursuing graduate work in the College of Human Sciences at Auburn. His personal life includes a strong family background, with his uncle Kam Chancellor having played football at Virginia Tech and in the NFL for seven seasons.
KeAndre Lambert-Smith's transfer to Auburn has been a game-changer for the Tigers. With his impressive stats, leadership qualities, and academic achievements, he is proving to be more than just a stable presence in the receiver room—he is a star. As Auburn navigates the challenges of the college football season, Lambert-Smith's experience and talent are likely to be crucial in their success.
