Keenan Allen Set to Return for Chicago Bears After Battling Plantar Fasciitis

Chicago Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen is expected to return to the field this week after missing two consecutive games due to a heel injury, specifically plantar fasciitis. Allen, who has been dealing with this issue since training camp and exacerbated it during the joint practice with the Bengals, has been working towards recovery and is hopeful that the worst of the injury is behind him.

Allen's injury has been a recurring problem, with the veteran receiver missing six of his last seven possible games due to heel-related issues. However, after being limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, Allen fully participated in Friday's practice, a positive sign for his return.

Practice and Injury Update

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus expressed confidence that Allen will be able to play against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Despite being listed as questionable, Allen's full participation in Friday's practice and his own assessment suggest he is ready to return to action. 'He was full today, looked good today,' Eberflus said. 'I know he's in a good spot'.

Allen acknowledged the pain and wear and tear associated with his injury but emphasized that he cannot make it worse and is relying on pain tolerance and patience for his recovery. 'Can't really do nothing about it,' Allen said. 'Wait until it heals up'.

Fantasy Outlook and Team Impact

From a fantasy perspective, Allen's return is significant but comes with some caution. He may not see a full complement of snaps as he is eased back into the offense, and he will be competing for targets with other talented receivers like D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze. Allen was targeted 11 times in Week 1 but is unlikely to see that same volume immediately upon his return.

Despite these factors, Allen's experience and rapport with quarterback Caleb Williams are expected to be beneficial. Allen was Williams' favorite target in Week 1, and his ability to operate effectively in a zone defense could be an advantage against the Rams.

The Bears' offense, which has managed without Allen for the past two weeks, is well-equipped to handle his gradual return. DeAndre Carter has filled in as the WR3 in Allen's absence, but the team's depth at wide receiver ensures that the loss of Allen would not significantly impact their overall offensive strategy.
