Lifetime's 'Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story' Explores a Chilling True Crime Tale

Lifetime is set to premiere a gripping new movie, 'Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story,' on October 19, 2024, at 8/7c. This film is based on the disturbing true story of Steven Pladl, a man whose actions led to a tragic and shocking conclusion.

The story begins with Alyssa, played by Jackie Cruz, who as a teenager falls into a relationship with Steven Pladl, portrayed by Matthew MacCaull. This relationship is marked by abuse, and after Alyssa becomes pregnant at 16, she gives birth to their daughter, Denise, whom they later put up for adoption due to Steven's violent behavior towards the infant.

The Reunion and Its Dark Consequences

Eighteen years later, their biological daughter, now named Katie Rose Fusco Pladl (Matreya Scarrwener), seeks out her biological parents through Facebook. Despite initial reservations, Katie moves in with Steven, Alyssa, and their two young daughters. However, this reunion takes a dark turn when Steven manipulates Katie into an incestuous relationship, neglecting the rest of the family in the process.

Alyssa discovers the affair and tries to warn Katie about Steven's abusive past, but Katie refuses to listen. The situation escalates further when Steven and Katie get married in July 2017, despite being biologically related, and have a child together named Bennett Kieron Pladl.

The Tragic End

In April 2018, the situation reaches its tragic climax. Steven murders his seven-month-old son, Bennett, in Knightdale, North Carolina. He then travels to New Milford, Connecticut, where he kills Katie and her adoptive father, Anthony Fusco. Finally, Steven takes his own life in Dover, New York.

Directed and executive produced by Elisabeth Röhm, 'Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story' delves into the complexities and horrors of this true crime case, highlighting themes of abuse, manipulation, and the devastating consequences of unchecked familial relationships.

The movie serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of addressing and preventing domestic abuse and incestuous relationships. It also underscores the need for support and resources for those affected by such traumas.
