A longtime coach at Taylor High School in Kokomo has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, prompting a swift response from the school administration and law enforcement.
The Taylor Community School Corporation has terminated the employee in question and has banned him from any school property or events involving Taylor students. Superintendent Steve Dishon described the accusations as 'deeply disturbing' and assured parents that the safety and security of students is the top priority. The school corporation is cooperating fully with the police investigation, which is being conducted by the Howard County Sheriffs Office.
Dishon encouraged parents to discuss with their children how to recognize grooming behavior and to report any uncomfortable situations to a trusted adult.
This incident comes on the heels of another disturbing case involving a former Taylor High School teacher, Charles Jansen, who was criminally charged in June with Vicarious Sexual Gratification with a child under 14 years of age. Jansen allegedly directed a child to urinate into a cup to satisfy his 'sexual desires.' Additionally, court documents revealed that Jansen had asked students to spit in his drinks, urinate in bottles for money, and paid students for old clothing and shoes. Jansen is scheduled for a jury trial on January 28 and faces up to 12 years in prison.
The recent allegations and terminations highlight the ongoing scrutiny of the Taylor Community School Corporation regarding its handling of employee misconduct and student safety.
