Mithun Chakraborty to Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Iconic Contribution to Indian Cinema

Veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty is set to be honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest film honour, for his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.

The announcement was made by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on X, where he praised Mithun Chakraborty's cinematic journey, stating, 'Mithun Das remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema.'

Award Ceremony Details

Mithun Chakraborty will receive the award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place on October 8, 2024.

Career Highlights

Mithun Chakraborty made his acting debut with the art house drama Mrigayaa in 1976, for which he won the National Film Award for Best Actor. He gained widespread recognition with the 1982 film Disco Dancer , and was also praised for his role in the 1990 movie Agneepath . Throughout his career, he has received two more National Film Awards for his roles in Tahader Katha (1992) and Swami Vivekananda (1998).

In addition to his film career, Mithun Chakraborty has also appeared as a judge on reality shows and recently acted in The Kashmir Files , directed by Vivek Agnihotri. His son, Namashi Chakraborty, made his Bollywood debut in the film Bad Boy .

Recent Honours

Earlier this year, Mithun Chakraborty was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, further recognizing his contributions to the arts.
