MLB Announces Significant Changes to All-Star Game and Regular Season Uniforms

Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced a series of changes to the uniforms worn during the All-Star Game and the regular season, responding to widespread feedback from fans and players. Starting in 2025, players selected for the All-Star Game will revert to wearing their traditional home and road team uniforms, a practice that was in place from the 1930s through 2019.

The decision to return to traditional uniforms comes after a four-year period where players wore generic All-Star Game jerseys for the National League and American League. This change was met with criticism, particularly from players like former Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Justin Turner, who expressed disappointment over the loss of team identity in the Midsummer Classic.

Uniform Changes for the All-Star Game

While the main All-Star Game will feature players in their home or road uniforms, special All-Star uniforms will still be worn during the Workout Day and the Home Run Derby. However, participants in the Home Run Derby will continue to wear their primary home uniforms.

The 2025 All-Star Game, hosted by the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park, will be the first to implement these changes. This move is seen as a return to tradition and a response to fan and player feedback.

Regular Season Uniform Updates

In addition to the All-Star Game changes, MLB is also making adjustments to regular season uniforms. Players' names and numbers on jerseys will be enlarged, and pant customization will be introduced. These changes aim to improve the overall look and comfort of the uniforms.

The new uniforms will also see a return to materials used prior to the Nike Vapor Premier jersey, which was introduced in 2023. Although the full implementation of these changes will not be completed until the start of the 2026 season, road grey uniforms made from the 2023 fabric will be ready by Spring Training in 2025.

These updates reflect MLB's commitment to listening to feedback from both fans and players, ensuring that the uniforms align with the preferences and comfort of those on the field.
