Mumbai Cricketer Musheer Khan Stable After Serious Road Accident, Faces Extended Layoff

Mumbai cricketer Musheer Khan, the younger brother of India Test cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, is in stable condition but out of danger after a severe road accident on the Purvanchal Expressway. The accident occurred on Friday while Musheer was traveling from Azamgarh to Lucknow with his father and coach, Naushad Khan.

The SUV they were in lost control at high speed, hit a divider, and overturned several times. Musheer sustained a fracture in the neck region and injuries to his limbs, while his father suffered minor injuries. They were admitted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow, where Musheer is currently under the care of Dr. Dharmendra Singh, Director of the Orthopedics Department.

Current Condition and Recovery

According to the hospital, Musheer's condition is stable, and he is out of danger. However, he is expected to be out of action for at least three months due to the severity of his injuries. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical teams are closely monitoring his progress to ensure he receives the best possible care.

Once Musheer is deemed medically fit for travel, he will be flown to Mumbai for further evaluation and additional medical treatment. The timeline for his recovery will be determined following these assessments.

Impact on Cricket Career

This injury has significant implications for Musheer's cricket career in the near future. He will miss the upcoming Irani Cup match against the Rest of India, scheduled to start on October 1, and is likely to be ruled out of the initial phases of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, which begins on October 11.

Musheer had a promising start to the domestic season, scoring a century for India B in the Duleep Trophy and making significant contributions to Mumbai's Ranji Trophy triumph earlier this year. His absence will be a notable blow to the Mumbai team.

The MCA has not yet named a replacement for Musheer, but there is speculation that Sarfaraz Khan, who is currently with the Indian team in Kanpur, might join the squad.
