New England Utility Workers Deploy to Aid in Hurricane Helene Recovery Efforts

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, which has left millions without power across the Southeast, utility workers from New England are mobilizing to provide critical assistance. Crews from Eversource, Unitil, and New Hampshire Electric Co-op are among those heading south to support the recovery efforts.

Deployment Details

Eversource line workers from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut are being deployed to Virginia to help restore power. The crews, which include around 40 line crews from each state, are expected to work for approximately a week to help Appalachian Power get around 150,000 customers back on the grid.

In addition to the line crews, 20 support personnel are also traveling to Virginia with necessary gear and trucks to assist the support crews. The deployment is part of the industrys Mutual Aid Network, which facilitates cooperation among utilities to restore power quickly and safely after severe storms.

Mutual Aid Efforts

Eversource CEO, Chairman, and President Joe Nolan emphasized the importance of mutual aid in the utility industry. 'We show up for each other in times of need, and Im proud of our employees whove stepped up, and theyll work tirelessly to get power back for the people impacted by this powerful hurricane,' Nolan said.

Nolan also assured that Eversource will maintain sufficient crews in New England to address any local issues that may arise during the deployment. This balance ensures that both the affected areas in the South and the local communities in New England receive the necessary support.

Impact of Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene has caused significant damage, resulting in at least 56 deaths and leaving millions without power. The storm's devastating impact has prompted a large-scale response from utilities across the country, highlighting the critical role of mutual aid in disaster recovery.
