Rain Today: IMD Issues Alerts for Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Across Multiple States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued several alerts predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall across various regions of the country, particularly for the weekend and the upcoming days.

Heavy Rainfall Prediction for Western India

Western India, including Gujarat, parts of Maharashtra, and Goa, is expected to experience intense rainfall. According to the IMD, "heavy to very heavy rainfall" is anticipated at isolated places over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat on September 27.

Specifically, the Gujarat region, including Saurashtra and Kutch, is likely to receive heavy rains on September 27 and isolated heavy rainfall on September 28. The Konkan region and Goa are also under an orange alert for very heavy rainfall on September 27, with continued isolated heavy rainfall expected on September 28.

Isolated Heavy Rainfall in Central India

Central India, particularly West Madhya Pradesh, is predicted to experience isolated heavy showers from September 27 to 28. The IMD has warned of scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over central India during the next three days, followed by isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall in the subsequent days.

Weather Update for Northwest Region

The northwest region, including Uttarakhand and east Uttar Pradesh, is expected to see very severe rainfall. The IMD has predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and east Uttar Pradesh on September 27, with continued isolated heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand on September 28.

West Uttar Pradesh is also likely to experience isolated heavy showers on September 27. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh over the next two days, with isolated to scattered rainfall in the remaining region during the week.

Weather Today in the Southern Region

Southern India is not immune to the heavy rainfall either. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on September 28 and 29. Kerala and Mahe are likely to witness similar weather patterns from September 28 to 30, while south interior Karnataka may experience it on September 29, and coastal Karnataka on September 30.

Extremely Heavy Rainfall Prediction for Eastern and Northeast India

The eastern and northeast regions are also under heavy rainfall alerts. Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 27, with continued heavy rains on September 28 and October 2 and 3.

Bihar is likely to receive heavy downpours on September 27 and 28. The northeastern states of Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh will experience similar weather conditions from September 27 to 28 and again from September 30 to October 3. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also predicted to have heavy rainfall during these periods.

Alerts and Precautions

The IMD has issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall over several states, including Madhya Maharashtra, Goa, Konkan, Gujarat, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Residents in these regions are advised to remain cautious and prepared for the heavy rainfall, which may lead to waterlogging, disruptions in local train and flight services, and other hazards. The agency has also highlighted a moderate flash flood risk for several watersheds, especially in the south Gujarat region and the coastal areas of Konkan and Goa.

As the monsoon withdrawal slows down due to a late surge in rainfall, the IMD continues to monitor the weather closely, providing regular updates to help mitigate the impact of these heavy rains.
