Rockets Fired from Lebanon Hit Central Israel, Including Tel Aviv and Sharon Area

On October 1, 2024, central Israel, including the Tel Aviv and Sharon areas, came under attack from rockets launched from Lebanon. This marked the first time Hezbollah targeted these central regions, just hours after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) initiated a ground offensive across the northern border.

The rocket attacks triggered air-raid sirens in various cities, including Tel Aviv, Herzliya, the Sharon region, Ra'anana, Kfar Saba, Bnei Brak, Petah Tikva, and Kfar Shmaryahu. The IDF's aerial defenses were activated to intercept the incoming threats, with multiple rockets identified and some successfully intercepted.

Despite the interceptions, at least one rocket landed on a major highway near the West Bank partition wall, causing injuries. Medics reported that two people were hurt, including a 50-year-old man who suffered a shrapnel injury to the head and was taken to the hospital in moderate condition.

IDF Operations in Southern Lebanon

The IDF conducted limited, localized, and targeted ground raids in southern Lebanon, focusing on Hezbollah terrorist targets and infrastructure. These operations were based on precise intelligence and aimed at neutralizing positions that pose an immediate threat to Israeli communities in northern Israel.

The IDF also carried out precision strikes against Hezbollah's weapons manufacturing sites and other infrastructure in the Dahieh neighborhood of Beirut. Prior to these strikes, measures were taken to minimize the risk to civilians, including warnings to the population, the use of precision munitions, and aerial surveillance.

International Concerns and Diplomatic Efforts

U.S. officials have been closely monitoring the situation and have expressed concerns about the potential for a larger conflict. Despite assurances from Israeli officials that the operations would remain targeted and limited, there is a possibility of 'mission creep' and a larger military presence. The U.S. and other international actors are advocating for a cease-fire to prevent further escalation.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks, stating that they targeted Israel's military intelligence base and the Mossad headquarters north of Tel Aviv. The group used Fadi rockets, which have a significant range and caliber, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by Hezbollah's military capabilities.
