Scottie Scheffler's Father and Caddie Involved in Altercation with Vulgar Fan at Presidents Cup

A tense incident unfolded at the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club on Saturday, involving Scottie Scheffler's father and his caddie, Ted Scott, after a fan made derogatory comments.

The incident occurred during the alternate-shot match between Scheffler and his partner Russell Henley against the International pairing of Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im. As Scheffler and Henley approached their drives on the 16th hole, a fan near the hospitality tents yelled vulgar remarks at Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, who was present along with Scheffler's father, Scott.

Scott Scheffler immediately confronted the fan, stepping across the fan rope to address the individual. Ted Scott, who was carrying Scheffler's bag, also intervened, storming outside the ropes to scream at the fan. Security quickly stepped in to separate the parties and escort the fan from the course.

Impact on the Match

Despite the distraction, Scheffler and Henley managed to refocus and continue their match. They had been trailing for the first 11 holes but eventually took a 1-up lead on the 14th hole. The duo closed out the match with a 2-foot, 8-inch putt for par by Scheffler, contributing to the USA team's 11-7 lead over the International team.

Scheffler acknowledged his struggles early in the match, praising his teammate Russell Henley for his consistent performance. 'I felt like I was on a different planet for the first six holes, really the first five holes. Starting on No. 6 I hit a good shot in there, and I don't think Russ missed a shot today,' Scheffler said.

Previous Interactions with Fans

This incident was not the only notable interaction between Scheffler and fans at the Presidents Cup. Earlier, Scheffler had chatted with spectators on the driving range about his brief time in prison earlier this year. Scheffler was arrested in May ahead of the US PGA Championship for a traffic incident but was released before his tee time, with all charges subsequently dropped.

Scheffler's season has been remarkable, with eight wins worldwide, including the Masters and Olympic gold. His performance at the Presidents Cup has been a highlight of his dominant year in golf.
