Tamim Iqbal Questions DRS Decision on Shadman Islam's Dismissal, Ravi Shastri Responds

In a contentious moment during the second Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam's dismissal sparked a heated debate over the Decision Review System (DRS).

The incident occurred in the 13th over of the Bangladesh innings when India pacer Akash Deep delivered a ball that pitched on a good length and angled in towards left-hander Shadman Islam. Despite a vociferous appeal from the Indian players, on-field umpire Richard Kettleborough initially ruled it as not out. However, Akash Deep was adamant and convinced India captain Rohit Sharma to review the decision.

Upon reviewing the play, the ball-tracking technology showed that the ball would have hit the leg stump, leading to a reversal of the on-field decision and Shadman Islam's dismissal. This outcome surprised many, including Rohit Sharma, who was seen congratulating Akash Deep for his insistence on taking the DRS.

Tamim Iqbal's Concerns

Former Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal, who was part of the commentary team, questioned the accuracy of the DRS ball-tracking technology. Tamim Iqbal expressed his belief that the ball was sliding down the leg side and not heading towards the stumps.

'I thought that was sliding down the leg stump but DRS had other ideas,' Tamim Iqbal said during the commentary.

Ravi Shastri's Response

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri countered Tamim Iqbal's concerns, referencing comments made by Dinesh Karthik about the potential illusion created by camera angles. Shastri emphasized that the camera angles might not always be straight, which could give a misleading impression about the ball's trajectory.

'DK spoke about the camera angles. It's not always absolutely straight, so it can give the impression that it is sliding down. Bounce was never going to be an issue in Kanpur. The Indian team was also surprised. There was only one member who believed it was out and that was Akash Deep,' Shastri explained.

The dismissal of Shadman Islam was a crucial moment in the match, as he was set and scoring freely at the time. His wicket marked an important breakthrough for India, thanks to Akash Deep's persistence in appealing for the DRS.
