Trevor Bauer Honored as Pitcher of the Year in Mexican Baseball League

Trevor Bauer has been honored as the pitcher of the year in the Mexican Baseball League, following an outstanding performance in his first season south of the border. The 33-year-old right-hander went 10-0 with a impressive 2.48 ERA in 14 starts.

Bauer dominated the league, leading in strikeouts with 120 in 83 1/3 innings. His stellar performance included setting a Mexican League record with 19 strikeouts against the Oaxaca Guerreros on June 21, surpassing the previous record of 18 strikeouts in a nine-inning game.

In addition to his record-breaking strikeouts, Bauer also tied a Mexican League record by striking out nine consecutive batters on April 21 against the Leon Bravos, a feat last achieved by José Ramón López in 1964 and later tied by Gary Williams in 1979.

Awards and Recognition

Bauer received 94 votes from the electing committee to secure the pitcher of the year award. Other contenders included Zac Grotz with nine votes, David Reyes with seven, Matt Dermody with six, Robert Stock with two, and Tyler Viza with one vote.

Career Revival

This accolade marks a significant step in Bauer's attempt to revive his big-league career. The former Cy Young Award winner in the major leagues has been working to regain his place after serving a 194-game suspension for violating MLB's domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. Despite never being charged with a crime and having civil claims settled, Bauer was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers in January 2023 and pitched in Japan last year.

Bauer initially signed a five-game contract with the Diablos Rojos of Mexico City but extended his stay for the remainder of the season, showcasing his commitment to returning to top form.
