Utah QB Cam Rising's Injury Status Remains Uncertain Ahead of Upcoming Games

Utah Utes quarterback Cam Rising continues to face uncertainty regarding his playing status due to an injury to his throwing hand. Rising suffered the injury during Utah's win against Baylor on September 7, when he collided with a water cooler on the sideline.

Rising has missed the last two games, including victories over Utah State and Oklahoma State, with freshman Isaac Wilson stepping in as the starting quarterback. Wilson has performed admirably, throwing for 207 yards and two interceptions against Oklahoma State, and 239 yards and three touchdowns against Utah State.

Game-Time Decision

Rising's status for the upcoming game against Arizona is once again a game-time decision. The Utah staff will evaluate his ability to throw the football during pregame warmups to determine if he can play. This evaluation process is the same as the one he underwent before the Oklahoma State game.

Coach Kyle Whittingham emphasized that Rising is eager to return to the field. 'All I'll say is Cam Rising wants to play more than anybody. And when he's able to, he will,' Whittingham said, dispelling any notion that Rising is not committed to playing.

Injury History and Impact

Rising has a history of significant injuries, having missed the entire 2023 season due to a major knee injury sustained during the Rose Bowl game. His return this season has been crucial for Utah's strong start, despite the current hand injury.

The team may opt to be cautious with Rising, considering they have a bye week before their next game against Arizona State on October 11. This could provide him with additional time to recover fully.

Practice and Recovery

Rising has participated in limited capacity during Utah's practices this week, as the team has prioritized giving him more rest to aid in his recovery. His ability to throw with force and accuracy will be the key factors in determining his readiness to play.
