Vidya Balan: Why She Still Lives in a Rented House with Husband Siddharth Roy Kapur

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, known for her versatile roles in films like "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" and "Mission Mangal," has recently opened up about her unique approach to finding the perfect home. Despite her successful career, Balan and her husband, Siddharth Roy Kapur, continue to reside in a rented house in Mumbai, a decision that stems from what she terms a "kismet connection."

The Concept of 'Kismet Connection'

Balan believes that finding the ideal home is not just about practical considerations, but also about a deeper, almost destiny-driven connection. "You walk into a house and you know it’s yours," she explained during an event where she addressed an audience of real estate developers.

This philosophy is rooted in her past experiences with house hunting. About 15 years ago, Balan went house hunting with her mother, looking for a place closer to her work in Bandra or Juhu to avoid the lengthy commute to Chembur. Despite finding a house they liked, it was initially beyond their budget. However, with her mother's encouragement to focus on managing the EMI, they were able to purchase the house. "When I walked into the house, it felt like my home," Balan recalled, emphasizing the role of fate in her decision.

Current Living Arrangements

Currently, Balan and her husband reside in a rented house on Carter Road, a prime location in Mumbai known for its luxury and scenic views. This decision came after an extensive house hunt where they reviewed over 25 houses but couldn't agree on any of them. The rented house, which offers the rare luxuries of a garden and a sea view in the densely populated city, was something they both liked despite Balan's initial reservations about renting.

"I always said, 'I don’t want to stay in a rented house,'" Balan admitted. However, the unique amenities and the comfort the house provided made it an attractive option. She humorously noted that the arrangement works well for everyone, as their landlord is happy "earning a fat cheque" from the deal.

Personal Preferences and Future Plans

Balan is known for her strong preference for cleanliness and her dedication to housework. "I am house proud and do a lot of housework," she shared, adding that she often ends up cleaning surfaces over and over again due to her aversion to dust.

When asked about her future plans, particularly if she were to start a real estate firm, Balan jokingly suggested it would be named "Mission Mangal," a nod to one of her popular films. This light-hearted response reflects her approach to life and career, where she believes in following her instincts and doing what feels right.

Conclusion

Vidya Balan's approach to finding a home underscores the importance of personal connection and destiny in making significant life decisions. Her story serves as a reminder that sometimes, the perfect home is not just about the physical attributes, but about the emotional and intuitive connection one feels upon entering it. As she continues to navigate her career and personal life, Balan's philosophy on "kismet connection" remains a guiding principle in her journey.
