Zomato Co-Founder and Chief People Officer Akriti Chopra Resigns After 13-Year Tenure

Akriti Chopra, a co-founder and the Chief People Officer of Zomato, has resigned from her position effective immediately. Chopra's decision to leave the company was announced in an email to Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal on September 27, 2024.

Chopra had been an integral part of Zomato since she joined in 2011 as a senior manager of finance and operations. Over the years, she took on various critical roles, including serving as the company's Chief Financial Officer until 2020, when Akshant Goyal took over the role. Most recently, she was the Chief People Officer, a position that underscored her commitment to the company's human resources and organizational development.

Career Highlights and Contributions

During her 13-year tenure, Chopra played a pivotal role in establishing and scaling Zomato's finance, legal, and governance functions. She was instrumental in setting up the company's finance teams and facilitating several funding rounds that helped Zomato expand its operations both domestically and internationally. Her contributions were recognized when she was elevated to the position of co-founder in 2021, ahead of the company's initial public offering.

In her resignation email, Chopra expressed her gratitude to Deepinder Goyal and the entire Zomato team, stating, 'These 13 years have been an incredibly enriching journey. Thank you for everything. I'm just a call away. Wishing you and Eternal all the very best.'

Reason for Resignation and Future Plans

Chopra cited her desire to pursue other interests as the reason for her resignation. Her departure marks the fifth time a co-founder has left the company, following Gunjan Patidar in 2023, Mohit Gupta in 2022, Gaurav Gupta in 2021, and Pankaj Chaddah in 2018.

It is also noteworthy that Chopra is married to Albinder Dhindsa, the founder of Blinkit, which Zomato acquired in 2022. However, CEO Deepinder Goyal clarified that Chopra had no involvement in any discussions or decisions related to the acquisition, addressing potential concerns about conflicts of interest.

Chopra's resignation is a significant milestone in her career, reflecting her decision to explore new opportunities after a long and distinguished tenure at Zomato.
